Biography of Lorenz Estermann

Lorenz Estermann was born in 1968 in Linz/Upper Austria. From 1988 to 1993 he studied at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst [University of Applied Arts] under Prof. Ernst Caramelle in the Masters class for drawing and painting, from which he graduated in 1993. He lives and works in Vienna and Linz.
His works were honoured in 1997 with a first prize in the Bau-Holding AG art competition, as well as with the ?Talentförderungsprämie des Landes Oberösterreich.? This was followed in 1999 by a prize in the 26th ?Graphikwettbewerb Innsbruck?, and in 2002 by a grant from the Government of Upper Austria to attend the Egon Schiele Zentrum Cesky Krumlov. In 2006/07 Lorenz Estermann received the ?T-Mobile-ART? project scholarship from the T-Center in Vienna, and in 2008 he received the Austrian ?Staatstipendium für Bildende Kunst.? In 2008 he was also sponsored by the Association of German Galleries for a ?New Talents? promotional exhibition at ART Cologne.

The emphasis of his work lies between drawing, photography, and installation/sculpture. Thereby his plywood and cardboard models serve as a link between mediums and create surprising cross-references to architecture.
For more than fifteen years he has been represented in the German-speaking world in many solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, and international art fairs such as ART Cologne, Viennafair, Art Moskau, Photo Miami, PULS New York, NEXT Chicago, and SCOPE Basel.
